Hostea.org was serving default Nginx page

On 11-20-2022, @aschrijver kindly reported that hostea.org website disappeared and was serving the default Nginx page.

To debug,

  1. I verified hostea.org was pointing to the server using host utility on my computer
  2. Verified the Nginx configuration responsible for serving hostea.org was correct. Should have checked if the static assets existed at this point, but was in a hurry.
  3. Analyzed Pages server logs with docker logs -f pages. Nothing out of the ordinary.
  4. Restarted Pages server, which re-downloaded the static assets from the Gitea repository. The website came back online.

I don’t know if the assets disappeared from the file system or what caused Nginx to serve the page.

What was missing? The entire HTML website or some files?

I don’t know, I didn’t check. Restarting Pages was a fluke.

When you looked at the gna.org page, was it 100% blank? 404? or was it missing assets only?

The default nginx page was being served, the one at /var/www/html/index.nginx-debian.html. I don’t know what status code it returned, but it looked normal and so it could have been HTTP 200.
